Highlights are a great way to add dimension to any color. They can be dramatic or very subtle to add shine and glow to hair. It is important to keep in mind that highlighting services are not always straightforward. Preexisting hair conditions can change the outcome. Shreeda will do her best to get you to your desired result, but multiple visits may be necessary to break through previous color. Highlights will not be performed on hair that has henna or black box color.
What is Balayage, Babylights, Half, Partial?
Highlight and color terminology can get quite complicated. Balayage is a technique, literally meaning to sweep paint. Traditional balayage is painted onto panels in the hair to create a soft diffuse color. It is a gentle process that lightens just a few levels. You can expect a warm result (gold, caramel, auburn, red). For lighter results, foil is incorporated to incubate the highlights. Babylights and Strandlights are very tiny highlights that create blend or glow in the hair. Depending on placement, the effect can vary. A highlight can be a full, half, or face frame. A full highlight is placed all over the head, a half highlight is placed on typically the top half of the head, and a partial is through the part line and around the face.
How do I choose between foil highlights or balayage?
Consider how much depth you would like to see. Balayage will offer a more soft grow out and will retain depth or darkness. This means you can go longer between touch ups. Routine toning services will still be necessary but you may not need another highlight for 6 months to a year. Foil highlights offer a more defined dimension and will require more frequent touch ups. It's possible to combine these effects and customize your service. Please reach out if you have any questions.
